90 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"Spice, underbrush, wild herbs and assorted red fruits all emerge from the charming, medium-bodied, supple, forward 2014 Pinot Noir from the Santa Maria Valley. It's geared for drinking over the coming 3-4 years, but offers incredible quality for not much buck. Note, this is a mix from Bien Nacido, Riverbench and Solomon Hills vineyards, and spent nine months in old French oak." - Jeb Dunnuck

"If you're looking for a classic Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir for not much buck, look no further than the 2013 Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills from Foxen. Like all the wines here, it was destemmed and spent 17 months in French oak, with this cuvee seeing roughly 30% new (the single vineyard varies from 30-50% new). It offers a plump, rounded, supple and sexy style to go with beautiful spice, rose petal and sweet red and black fruits. Drink this medium-bodied, layered and exceedingly pure Pinot over the coming 5-6 years."

"Black cherries, toasted spice, licorice and wild herbs all emerge from the balanced, gorgeously textured 2014 Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills. And, it’s a smoking value that has both fruit and complexity. It will shine for 4-5 years."

91 Points - Wine Enthusiast

"Concentrated red cherries, dried purple flowers, fresh rose petals and a wet gravel minerality show on the nose of this bottling by Billy Wathen and Dick Dore. It's light in body and fairly delicate on the sip, with Earl Grey tea, stewed cranberry and rose-hip flavors."

" Showing the darker style of Pinot Noir, the 2013 Pinot Noir Julia's Vineyard offers lots underbrush, crushed rocks, licorice and darker Pinot Noir fruit to go with a medium+- bodied, rich, structured and elegant profile on the palate. Completely destemmed and aged in 40% new French oak, it needs a year or two of cellaring and will keep through 2025." - Jeb Dunnuck

"Lush, ripe and showing rich cherry, tangy acidity and notes of oak; juicy, crisp and balanced; savory and long, racy and elegant."

92 Points - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

The 2013 Pinot Noir Julia's Vineyard is wonderfully nuanced and pliant in the glass. Sweet red cherry, plum, smoke, licorice and mint are some of the notes that meld together. Supple and juicy throughout, the 2013 is an excellent choice for drinking over the next few years, while the wine retains its racy, forward personality. -- Antonio Galloni

95 Points - Jeb Dunnuck , Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

An incredible, profound Pinot Noir, Foxen's 2013 Pinot Noir Bien Nacido Vineyard Block 8 was completely destemmed and aged 17 months in 50% new French oak. Its deep ruby color is followed by sensational notes of sweet cherries, black raspberries, crushed flowers and a touch of licorice. Medium to full-bodied, layered and multi-dimensional, with seamless texture, this is California Pinot Noir at its finest. Drink it any time over the coming 7-8 years.

95 points - Tasting Panel Magazine

Rich nose; smooth and silky juicy bing cherries and raspberry; mellow, lush and ripe with tangy acidity and lovely structure; elegant, long and racy with a long, pure finish.

94 Points - Wine Enthusiast

93 Points - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

A powerful, structured wine, the 2013 Pinot Noir Bien Nacido Vineyard Block 8 is literally bursting at the seams with explosive energy. A host of savory herbs, smoke, licorice and tobacco open up in the glass, but this is a wine to put a way for a few years, as the elements still need time to come together. The firm, grippy finish and the wine's overall delineation are both striking. -- Antonio Galloni

90 Points - Wine Spectator

"A delicate, detailed style, showing subtle nuances of gravelly earth, raspberry and cherry, with touches of spice, flowers and dried herbs. Ends with a mix of graphite and berry. Drink now through 2020."

Just as good as the Block 8, yet in a more focused, ethereal style, the 2013 Pinot Noir Block 43 Bien Nacido Vineyard was vinified similarly, but only saw 33% new French oak as opposed to the 50% used for the Block 8. This ruby-colored block 43 has fabulous rose petal, crushed violets, sweet spice and ample black cherry and black raspberry characteristics to go with a medium to full-bodied, ultra-pure, elegant and beautifully precise feel on the palate. I love it, and it's another terrific Pinot Noir from this estate that will have a decade or more of longevity.

92 Points - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

It's fascinating to taste the 2013 Pinot Noir Bien Nacido Vineyard Block 43 after the Block 8. Creamy, round and supple, the Block 43 is all about sensuality and soft, inviting contours. Raspberry jam, wild flowers and mint are some of the notes that open up in an open-knit, expressive Pinot to drink over the next handful of years. Next to the Block 8, the Block 43 has a bit more alcohol and higher pH, which contribute to richer feel.

"I loved the two Pinot Noirs from the Bien Nacido Vineyard, and both have distinct characters. The inky colored, rich, concentrated, yet gorgeously pure 2014 Pinot Noir Block 43 Bien Nacido Vineyard (destemmed and aged in 40% new French oak) gives up fabulous notes of very ripe raspberries, spring flowers, forest floor and a touch of oak in its textured, rich, layered, silky personality. This is a fabulous wine."

" Smooth, lush and juicy with ripe black cherry and mellow style; ripe, tangy and long."

92 Points - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

"The 2014 Pinot Noir Bien Nacido Block 43 offers lovely depth and creaminess in a surprisingly succulent style for this site. Then again, this parcel was planted for Foxen with Dijon clones that naturally yield generous fruit. Underlying beams of salinity confer freshness and persistence throughout that balance the fruit nicely. Sweet dark red and purplish fruit, mint and sweet spice meld into the fleshy, inviting finish."

Tangy black cherry and bright acidity; lively, crisp and racy with lovely style and balance. This is just one of the several excellent Foxen releases I tasted recently; see our website for others.

93 Points - Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate

Another terrific Pinot Noir, the 2013 Pinot Noir John Sebastiano Vineyard was 100% destemmed and spent 17 months in 50% new French oak. Full-bodied, rich, mouth filling and beautifully textured, with surprising underlying structure, it offers tons of minerality, ground herbs and sweet Pinot Noir fruit on both the nose and palate. Shining for its seamless texture and purity of fruit, it still needs a year or two in the cellar, but will keep through 2023.

“Spicy and complex, with lots of sour cherries, dried underbrush and crushed flowers, the 2014 Pinot Noir John Sebastiano Vineyard (aged 17 months in 50% new French oak) is medium-bodied, silky and polished on the palate. It has fine tannin and a clean, classy, balanced style that's already hard to resist. Nevertheless, it will evolve for 5-7 years.” - Jeb Dunnuck

94 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"From one of the most distinctive vineyards in the Sta. Rita Hills, the 2013 Pinot Noir Melville Vineyard is another terrific Pinot from this team. Completely destemmed and aged 17 months in 33% new French oak, it has excellent tension and purity on the palate, with medium-bodied depth through the mid-palate and a beautiful, crystaline like profile that's not found in many wines. Possessing notions of raspberry (which turns slightly cassis-like with air), violets, classic Sta. Rita spice and subtle toasted bread, it should be at it's best from 2016-2023." - Jeb Dunnuck

91 Points - Wine Enthusiast

90 Points - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

"The 2013 Pinot Noir Melville Vineyard is a soft, supple wine to drink now and over the next few years. Smoke, game, licorice and tobacco add shades of complexity, but overall this is a relatively straightforward Pinot with texture and balance, if less in the way of real distinction"

"From another vintage of Billy Wathen home runs comes this bottling from friend Rick Longoria's vineyard. It shows bramble berries, elderberries, sagebrush juniper and roasting herbs on the nose. Layers of thyme and dried oregano decorate the raspberry juice and pencil-lead palate."
